Clare Fischer's big-band release was only briefly available as an Atlantic LP but it has finally reappeared in the CD era after a brief appearance under another title on LP some ten years after its first release. Fischer's potent originals and first-rate arrangements bring out the best in his musicians, which include Warne Marsh and Conte Candoli (featured on "Miles Behind"), Bill Perkins on a work trumpeter Stewart Fischer specially composed for the baritone saxophonist ("Calamus"), and alto saxophonist Gary Foster featured with Marsh on Lennie Tristano's "Lennie's Pennies." A well- conceived chart of Billy Strayhorn's "Upper Manhattan Medical Group" swings mightily. The leader even makes a rare appearance on alto sax in the brief "In Memoriam" dedicated to the assassinated Kennedy brothers.

An excellent 2012, full of good music, for you and your family and all Panonia is my wish from the Pampas!
:-))
Thank you very much!
On track #6 you combined 2 tunes: Bitter Leaf and Upper Manhattan Medical Group. Then track #7 is Upper Manhattan Medical Group alone.
Thank you mohaoffbeat and happy new year to you too.
Many thanks for this great album, but there is still a problem with tracks 6 and 7. Track 6 still has UMMG following on from Bitter Leaf, and now track 7 seems to be a section of Bitter Leaf. However, I wish you a happy and peaceful 2012 and look forward to more excellent sounds.
sorry for the wrong tracking. So the B side again:

Ahh.. didn't realize, but this is Warne's 50th at Moha's!!
An occasion to remember that just before Christmas, '87, Marsh collapsed and died at Donte's; he was playing "Out of Nowhere"
Moha, Thanks a lot for this precious material. I am sure that there are a lot of Warne's Bootleg available, would be nice to set up a mailing list on the argument. (At the moment I have almost 100 Warne's recording)
from the 'Unsung Cat":
"On this night the band at Donte's included Ross Tomkins, who normally worked the Thursday night gig with Candoli, on piano, Buddy Clark on bass, and Larence Marable on drums. They played a set and drifted off the stand. After a time Lesner and veteran jazz radio personality Chuck Niles left their seats at the bar to mingle with the musicians: "We went to that table on the south side where the hotshots used to sit," said Lesner, "and Warne was just so up and cheery! I thought, godalmighty, he's al¬most like a Guy Lombardo employee. He wandered off and we went back to the corner of the bar, and he came up and slapped us both on the back, said 'Hey, what's going on?' He wasn't a backslapper, it was completely out of character."
For the first number of the second set Marsh called an old favorite, "Out of Nowhere." He finished his solo, sat on his stool, then abruptly stepped off it, and, as Lesner saw it, staggered, "gently laid his horn on the floor, and lay down on his side. The first to notice was Marable. Larence kind of leaned forward and stood up. He said something like, 'What the fuck you doing, Warne, what's going on?' Tomkins looked around with his usual quizzical look on his face. It was so slick, so smooth, the way he went down. Everyone of course knew that he'd had that heart attack. Marable yelled, for Christ's sake somebody call an ambulance!' and the place just stopped cold..."
